3 shitty drawings + more lessons on shrinking

A couple days ago I was served a TikTok of Lewis Rossignol doing one of his dope ass drawings of Nick Cave.

@lewisrossignolGoing straight in with ink & embracing imperfection is a good way to keep your art loose. Prints Available #nickcaveandthebadseeds #nickcaveportrait #portraitdrawing

I fucking LOVE every one of his weird pieces and am just as obsessed with his entire website in general.

you can’t tell in this photo of course, but this man’s eyes are moving and he’s stirring the spoon in his cup and it’s delightful

I gave it a visit to see what kind of new prints he’d added lately and got sucked into clicking around all over, landing on a new “COURSES” area I hadn’t yet explored.

He had a session you could buy on to use Procreate, which is a drawing software I’d heard of but never used.

When I looked it up on my phone to find it was a one-time purchase of $5.99 MY FINGERS COULDN’T PURCHASE IT FAST ENOUGH!!

You mean to tell me this professional quality art-making app used by all these drawing people I follow costs less than a Frappuccino at Starbs?!?!??

AND YOU HAVE IT FOREVERRRR?!?!

Ugh. Sometimes I forget to be grateful about being alive in 2023.

Anyway, I added it to my phone and then quickly had to get ready to head to the gym with Bee.

didn’t even realize we had matching pants on until making this post lol how embarrassing but oh well

On our way back home, while waiting in line to pick up our dinner, a black cat crossed our path.

I obviously had to draw it in my new fancy Procreate Pocket app. 💅🏽

Started it in the car and finished shortly after at home.

Here is my first finished piece.

ALSO!!!

You can export time lapse videos of your creations while you make them!!

So here is that video:

(bc i know you’re wondering all about my creative process on such an elegant and sophisticated piece of fine art)

Then Brandon gave the app a try while hanging out on the couch yesterday and he drew this absolute masterpiece of a McDonald’s scene.

And then today while watching a video for work I made this doodle of who knows what.

Obviously our talent knows no bounds and I’m sure these will all be hanging in galleries very soon.

That’s why I put my initials in the bottom.

So nobody tries to fabricate these one-of-a-kind works.

okay okay in all serious it’s honestly way too cheap to have this much fun at your literal fingertips.

You don’t even need to carry a pen to make nonsensical doodles and patterns that spark joy and delight.

ADDITIONALLY! as a bonus…

It’s really refreshing to watch myself be pretty objectively not good at something.

I love that I was so pumped to draw I picked the first thing I saw.

And I was in such a state of enjoyment I drew it as fast as I could.

And I didn’t even notice how bad it was until a few hours later.

But at that point I kind of don’t care because when I look at it, all I can think about is how fun it was to make.

These tiny stupid drawings are further commentary on the topic from my last post about breaking up the big shit until it becomes more bearable.

It’s been a long time since I had the mental space and energy to collect some paper, colors, inspiration, and an idea worthy of sitting at my desk to create it.

It’s not hard. Children do it all the time.

But it subconsciously feels like a frivolous thing to have ever made space for.

In having such a portable, low-cost, always-available option at my fingertips, it just made it easy and light.

It’s been a weird reminder to just keep shrinking shit.

Any single thing that can be simpler should be.

And any activity that seems fun should be tried in some capacity, even if it’s tiny.

Seeya next time 🐒
